Sabbath Salutations 09032010

Hello! I hope you’ve had a wonderful week. This weekend is the Columbia Music Weekend and we are looking very much forward to going there tomorrow morning and spending the Sabbath and Sunday with the brethren in that area.

In this video I discuss our need to look for needs in the congregation and also to give generously to the work to be able to preach the gospel as Christ has commanded us to do. (I use the word “secondarily” in referring to the work, and what I meant was “as an additional consideration,” not a lesser one…just wanted to clarify :) ).

We have secured our home in Wisconsin and will be heading that way around October 20th, so we are excited to be able to serve the brethren in the Minnesota area very soon!

Have a wonderful Sabbath and take care!

Happened upon our home

We did find a house. Yay! After 2,800 miles of dashboard time we simply happened upon the house as we were driving to another home viewing. There in the yard as we traveled down County Road GG was a beacon – a sign which read “For Rent.” After stopping in to see what the property was like we were interested.

After calling the real estate agent and having her tell us that she could not show us the house because there was already an application pending and learning also that the owner did not want to allow cats under any circumstances we were a little disheartened. Then, the real estate agent said that she was not going to review the application until Friday (the day we would be driving home) she changed her mind and said that she would take a look at the application and see if there were any red flags which would keep it from going through. She said she would call back in an hour.

We went on at that point to view the other home we were en route to see, and after a “family thumbs down” we went back into town and decided to stop at the park and take a walk (weary bent driving legs). After walking not even a quarter of the way around the park we received a call. It was the real estate agent. The application fell through. She had already called the owner and the owner was OK with our cat since it has been de-clawed and spayed. She told us she could show it to us in one hour. Of course we said “yes!” and we made our way back out to the house. After looking in all the windows (again) and walking around the yard. The agent showed up and we were able to view the inside at that point.

After taking the tour, we decided that it was the house for us and even went to the agents house and filled out the application. The timing could not have been better. We are so very thankful to the Great God for guiding us and leading us through the process and are very much looking forward to serving God’s people up north.

By the way…I have designed a website for serving the brethren in the Minnesota area. It is still a work in process, so excuse the construction mess. :) If you are interested in viewing it you can see it here.

Minnesota miles…

We made it to the Minneapolis area just fine and uneventfully which makes us very thankful. We have spent the last two days driving all over the northern highways surrounding the city. We have seen so many houses, but so far, our search continues. Today we’ll be driving to Wisconsin to look at some houses, one of which is in the country and seems to have promise. I say “seems” because if there’s one thing we’ve learned is that you just can’t trust a picture. The picture sometimes looks like the way the house was about 30 years, and that many winters ago also! So, what I’m saying is that we are just reserving judgment until we physically tour the home.

I will say that we have enjoyed seeing the countryside and being able to spend time together as a family. The van that we have for the week is racking up some miles. In three days of driving from Kansas City, and also milling around the last two days in Minnesota we’ve put about 1,600 miles on the van. We have today and tomorrow to continue to look for a place, so the clock is ticking… Take care.

Sabbath Salutations 08202010

Good evening! I hope you’ve finished strong after whatever kind of week you’ve had – whether hectic or busy – and it does seem to be one or the other these days. I know what your going through, and I feel your pain. :)

The video for this week will most likely need to wait until next. We were traveling today and it has been what seems to be a long day. We are now in St. Louis and are looking forward to spending the Sabbath with the wonderful St. Louis brethren tomorrow.

It was interesting earlier today as we had our van loaded with supplies which needed to be returned to a mini-storage facility in Troy, Missouri (items we have had since the pre-teen camp that needed to be cleaned) and as I was returning home from a visit, while stopping for traffic lights and stop signs, our van began making horrible noises and the motor stopped running. It did this multiple times. I did continue to start it and finally made it home. The engine heat gauge was further than the red line – it was hot!

Actually I could smell burning anti-freeze and when I opened the hood at home the coolant reservoir was steaming and making a hissing sound. Needless to say, we would not be taking our van on busy highways for hours on end.

We did, with the help of some fantastic people at Church Headquarters, secure a rental van which we did use to make it to St. Louis. We will also be taking this rental van on yet another trip which will depart on Sunday and require us to be out driving most of next week. We will be traveling to the location where we’ll be moving to in October. While there, we’ll be looking for a place to live and I can say, without hesitation, that I am so glad we have a rental van to use for this pre-move trip.

So, as the Scriptures say, “…all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28) and certainly they have. We will still pray that the repair shop will find an inexpensive solution to what is plaguing our poor van, but whatever the case, we know God is in charge and working out His perfect plan through it all.

We did also make it to the storage unit well before the Sabbath, so again, it all worked out for the best.

Have a blessed Sabbath. Take care.

Sabbath Salutations 08132010

Good evening and Sabbath Salutations! I hope you’ve had a wonderful week. It is always a pleasure to once again arrive at the Sabbath and enjoy the rest that God has given to mankind as a blessing and a gift. Tonight I discuss in the video our need to maintain. We have to maintain physically with various things around the house, or with our vehicles, but we also need to be maintaining spiritually, so that’s what I discuss.

Have a blessed Sabbath and take care!
