Back to print
I finally did it. I broke down and got a subscription to the newspaper. Why you ask? I simply got fed up with the seemingly endless amounts of time that can be wasted in trying to scour the headlines presented on the internet news sources. Not that I will never do this, but clicking on a headline and reading a story, or even following a news thread, is all to often the missing step. Too much like window shopping with no real purchase and take-home value.
I think it is important to gain knowledge of news from a variety of sources, especially for comparative purposes, but there was a time last year when I had access to the printed version of the Wall Street Journal and being able to read the news in printed form, paper in hand (as well as scissors and highlighter), was relaxing, interesting, and mentally stimulating. It also made for effective conversational communication material which cannot be underestimated in its practical worth.
Investing in broadening one’s knowledge-base of various topics in the areas of finance, politics, human interest, international developments, and news threads of prophetic significance is time and money well spent. I now await the delivery to the driveway of the plastic bag containing the information that I will dutifully separate wheat from chaff. The resulting sifted information will then be used in an edifying manner that is pleasing-to-God. But, in the meantime, until the printed bundle of informative words is cast onto the stretch of pavement outside my door, I am left to scour headlines and challenged to read – not simply window shop – for news.
