Prayer or Pain?
An article dated today concerning Pope John Paul II stated that the pontiff used to flagellate himself with a belt to share in the suffering of Christ. He says he did this to get closer to Jesus. It seems from the article that even Mother Teresa self-flagellated and that it is a commonly accepted and approved practice of the Catholic Church. What does the Bible have to say in this regard?

“A mission without knowledge is like a boat caught on dry ground.” I like that saying and wish that I had come up with it, but I didn’t, instead it’s a line from an old movie that I will refrain from citing here. The message is a good one, though, and I thought I would share it with all of you.
Interestingly enough, I was reading in 1 Samuel this morning and a passage just jumped off the page. I’m sure you know what I’m talking about, that “Hey, where did that come from?” – feeling when a scripture, seemingly from nowhere, appears as if you’re wearing 3D glasses.
